Two people going to the same country can need completely different protection. A fortnight in a city hotel isn't the same risk as a month backpacking, working in a rural clinic, or visiting family upcountry — and your age, medical history and current medication all change the picture again.

That's why every appointment starts with a proper risk assessment rather than a list: we go through your route, how long you're away, what you'll be doing and where you'll be staying, then recommend only what you actually need. If something isn't necessary, we'll tell you.

"Solihull Clinic is run by Monkspath Pharmacy, your local community pharmacy in Shirley, Solihull. As the pharmacist behind the clinic, I believe good healthcare starts with being easy to talk to. Every service here — from travel vaccinations to blood tests — is delivered personally, with time to listen and explain. There's no referral needed and no long wait: just book in, and we'll take care of the rest.

  • How far ahead should I book?

Ideally six to eight weeks before you travel, because some courses need more than one dose spread over several weeks. If you're going sooner than that, still get in touch — there is almost always something worth doing, and a few vaccines can be given on shorter schedules.

  • What should I bring to my appointment?

Your travel dates and full route including any stopovers, a list of the medicines you take, and any vaccination records you can find. If you can't find your records, don't worry — we'll work from what you remember.

  • Do I need a yellow fever certificate?

It depends on your exact route. Some countries require proof of vaccination to enter, and others only ask for it if you're arriving from a country where yellow fever is present, so stopovers matter. We'll check your itinerary against the current requirements.

  • I take regular medication — does that change anything?

Often not, but we need to know. Some antimalarial tablets interact with common medicines or aren't suitable alongside certain conditions, so your current prescriptions are part of the assessment rather than an afterthought.

  • I've had travel vaccines before — do I need them again?

Possibly not. Several travel vaccines protect for years, so you may only need a booster, or nothing at all. Bring whatever records you have and we'll tell you honestly what's still in date.
