Check whether treatment may be appropriate

BMI is a rough measure. It does not account for muscle, body composition or ethnicity, and it is only ever one part of the picture.

What this suggestsMay be appropriate

On these numbers alone, treatment may be worth discussing. Whether it is actually appropriate depends on your medical history, your current medicines and a proper assessment.

This is a guide only. It does not replace a clinical assessment and nothing is prescribed on the basis of a calculator.

Why it matters

Why it matters

Weight is more than willpower.

Weight is more than willpower.

Body weight is shaped by hormones, appetite signalling, sleep, medication and circumstance — not just effort. The body also defends its weight: lose some, and appetite rises while energy use falls. That is normal physiology rather than personal failure, and it is why keeping weight off needs as much planning as losing it. It is also why we start by understanding what is driving things for you. Some commonly prescribed medicines contribute to weight gain, and conditions such as thyroid problems or PCOS can play a part, so a medication review or some screening is sometimes the sensible first move. Treatment is one option among several, and it isn't right for everyone. If it isn't right for you, we will say so.

A free first consultation

No charge to come in and talk it through, and no pressure at the end of it. Deciding not to go ahead is a perfectly good outcome.

A proper suitability assessment

Your health history, current medicines and what you have tried before all shape what is appropriate — and what isn't.

Support that fits your week

Practical guidance on eating, activity and habits you can actually keep up, rather than a plan that collapses by February.

Follow-up, not a one-off

If ongoing support is appropriate, we agree how often we check in, what to watch for, and when something needs adjusting.

  • What actually happens in the consultation?

A conversation in a private room, not a form-filling exercise. We go through what you are hoping to achieve, your health history, any medicines you take, and what you have already tried. Then we explain which options are appropriate for you and which aren't, and why.

  • What does it cost?

The consultation itself is free, and there is no obligation at the end of it. If treatment turns out to be appropriate, we will explain exactly what it costs before you decide anything — no surprises once you have committed.

  • Is it confidential?

Yes. Appointments take place in a private consultation room rather than at the counter, and your information is handled in confidence and in line with GDPR. You can book online if you would rather not phone.

  • Do I have to talk about medication?

Not at all. Plenty of people come in wanting to understand their options, or to work out whether something they have read about applies to them. A lifestyle-first approach is a legitimate plan, and for some people it is the right one.

  • What if it turns out I'm not suitable?

Then we will tell you plainly, explain the reasoning, and point you to what would help instead — which may be your GP, an NHS weight management service, or something we can support here. Being told no is a proper outcome, not a wasted appointment.
